Shrewsbury's nearly Cathedral (CoE)
100 years ago 1 vote in the House of Lords was all that prevented the formation of the Anglican Diocese of Shrewsbury. The Abbey would have been its cathedral.
Historian, The Rev Canon Dr William Price, Anglican priest, and sometime Lecturer in Church history at the University of Wales, Lampeter, will give an illustrated talk focussing on the various attempts to create an Anglican Diocese of Shrewsbury, dating back to Henry VIII himself at the Reformation, this attempt in 1926 and yet again as recently as 1988.
